What picture did you see in your head when you read the introduction. Describe in detail. Dad watching the moon and studying the lunar phases when the tide and weather is right.

White Thinking Hat: Who are the characters? Describe them. Whanau and friends.

Tell me in detail what this story is about. Gathering kaimoana.

Which character did you dislike? Why? The kid in the cyan hoodie because he was just throwing the eels onto the shore like it was a stick.

Which part of the story bored you? What may have caused you to get bored? The intro because nothing exciting was really happening.

If you could change any part of this story which one would it be? The first sentence of the body. I would have made shorter by saying we started playing.

Conclusion: Was the end predictable? Tell me why? Why not? Yes because i predicted that the tide would rise and the eels would have continued to swim to the sea.

Persuasive Writing

Persuasive writing why we should ride bikes short distances

I strongly believe that people should ride bikes short distances instead of driving cars i will provide you with adequate reasons as to why you should ride bikes short distances instead of driving cars.

If you choose to ride a bike you don’t have to pay for gasoline or diesel because bikes are pedal powered. Bikes only cost around thirty to fifty dollars where cars cost thousands and thousands of dollars. A bike only weighs 10-15 pounds and cars weigh tons and tons. Bikes are environment friendly because they do not make fumes and pollute the air cars make fumes and carbon-dioxide and are part of the reason why there is global warming especially diesel cars.

Cars keep you warm on freezing cold days and on bikes you would have to wear layers of clothing and keep moving to stay warm. In cars they have up to seven seats and can hold passengers but bikes can only have up to two seats and those kinds of bikes cost lots of money. Bikes cannot hold many items where's cars can hold many items.

Cars might be able to hold more than bikes can but if you put things like satchel bags, baskets and where a bag you would be surprised how many items you could carry.

After reading this I hope you would consider riding a bike short distances instead of driving a car.

Narrative writting-Mysteriously disappear

It was a foggy morning James and Marcus were down in the living quarters discussing their arrival at the mysterious island people often mistook Marcus for a pirate with his big bushy beard his scars on his face and his pirate like accent and James was a young buck with his devices his shiny hair and his stubble.

Marcus had been searching for this island for most of his life he’s been studying this island tracking it and he knows what to expect when he see’s it. James studded coordinates in high school he’s an
explorer he met Marcus at a tavern in Ireland James was asking around for information on where a good place to explore would be like old ruins or ship grave yards. Then he meets Marcus. Marcus was staying in a room up stairs James went up to Marcus and asked him where a good place to explore would be Marcus asked if he'd like to accompany him on his journey James excitedly said yes. Marcus tells James about the mysterious island.

Marcus pulled out his powerful spotlight and mounted it onto the stern of the boat a powerful beam of light shone through the mist that revealed a rocky shoreline James didn't notice until they crashed into a huge rock James was knocked unconscious and Marcus struggled trying to keep James from drowning. James woke up three hours later Marcus was scavenging the boat wreck for supplies. He moved James under a shelter he made out of palm leaves Marcus manages to find and fix the boat radio he tries to call for help but there's no response James comes over to try and help find some supplies they managed to find some food and water rations. They set up camp and waited for help the next day. When they woke up they were surprised their food rations had disappeared they began investigating but all they could find was sand and debris.

The disappearance of their food rations gave them a good reason to explore the island for clues or treasure or the culprit who took their food. During their exploration they came across some beautiful sights like crystal clear rivers waterfalls caves they decided to take a break and cool of in a beautiful lake that was fresh enough to drink they refilled their canteens and headed back to their shelter when they got back their shelter was gone they confused how could something quietly have snuck past them and just taken their shelter with only the posts that held up the shelter remaining they had no time to go back into the jungle and look for their missing food and shelter it was getting dark and they needed food and somewhere to sleep Marcus started fishing and James searched for a good place to build their shelter. James managed to find a little spot where the ground overhung the ground below. James began building and started a campfire. Marcus lugged the fish he caught back to the new shelter in a fishing net they salvaged from the boat wreck they made spit and cooked the fish over the fire. They decided that they should take turns watching to see if anything else would mysteriously disappear James was on watch duty but he forgot to swap places with Marcus and fell asleep.

When they woke up there fish that they caught was gone but the culprit who took their things had left trails of fish behind they were about to follow the trail but they thought they couldn’t just go following the trail unarmed they could be running into a bear cave or a tree full of wild screamer monkeys so they decided to make spears. They followed the trail it lead to a crashed plane they found their missing things but no culprit they  looked around they found the person who’s been taking their things it was another crash survivor they confronted him he didn’t know that it was their things he was taking he only took their radio because he was trying to signal for help and the other things were for food and supplies. He said a rescue helicopter would come and rescue them the next day.

They waited till the next day and prepared for their rescue they salvaged everything they could from the wreckage of their boat and made some rucksacks with plant fibers. They made an S.O.S signal with seashells, seaweed and driftwood the rescue helicopter saw their signal and landed the rescue crew helped them aboard they were given something to eat and drink during the flight Marcus and James were going through their photos that they took Marcus had a mile long grin on his face then James says so where are we going next.

Vault 111

(Nate saying introduction)
In the year 1945 my great-great-grandfather served in the army he wondered when he would get to go home to his wife and to the son he’d never seen. He got his wish when the U.S ended world war 2 by dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The world awaited Armageddon instead something miraculous happened. We began to use atomic energy not as a weapon but as a nearly limitless source of power. They use this to make the world better. The idea of nuclear powered cars has been brought back. Domestic robots have been invented to help people. But with every great new thing that happens in the world there always seems to be a war over it.

Robots have been built to go to war and hydraulic amour has been designed for the heavy infantry. Wars have been raging against the U.S.A and China. A company called Vault-tec designed special vaults (a fallout bunker) to keep civilians safe from nuclear fallout. Let me tell you of an event, news of nuclear detonation has been received. Residence who have been put on vault tec's list are authorized to proceed to their local vault, vault 111. Unfortunately some people did not make it to their vaults in time and those who did not make it would have had to evolve with their surroundings or perish.

Not all vaults where safe. Some vaults where conducting experiments to see how well the average human could

adapt/survive with their surroundings. One vault in particular (vault 111) they were focusing on cryo stasis pods to observe the effects of long-term cryogenic suspended animation on unsuspecting test subjects. Only people with war experience or relations to people who have had war experience are put on this list.

But all that changed when two scientists escorted by a mercenary broke into the vault. Their mission was to extract the only baby in the vault. The mother of the child was holding him. She was not eager to give up her infant son she and one of the scientists struggled but the fight was ended when the mercenary pulled out his large caliber .44 magnum revolver and shot the women. In the pod in front of her was her husband Nate he was devastated witnessing the death of his wife and the abduction of his son. He was paralyzed with anger. After the abstraction was made only the 2 pods were re-frozen. Set for another 60 years.

As Nate gained consciousness he heard the vault computer say “Manuel seal override”. His pod opened up he instantly without hesitation rushed over to his wife. Disengaging her cryo pod the wound was still as fresh as the day she got shot. Nate then realized it was too late to give her medical attention. He then grabs her wedding ring and promises to save their infant son. He attempts to leave the vault he comes across a handful of large irradiated cockroaches luckily for him they died just as easy as regular cockroaches. On his way out he comes across the skeletal remains of a scientist with a Pip-boy (portable information processor) attached to its severed arm he equips this and attaches it to a plug in the vault door control board and overrides it to exit the vault.

(Pip-boy)

He emerges from the the vault laying his eyes on the wasteland for the first time he gave a long shocked gasp. He then says to himself war...war never changes.

(The Vault the main protagonist was in)

Why animals should not be held in captivity

I strongly believe that animals should not be held in captivity. I will provide you with many reasons as to why animals should not be held in captivity.

God has created every living creature to be free because they were born free. Every animal has a natural habitat like the polar bears for example are made for snow and camels are made for the deserts. What right does man have to trap animals and put them in the zoo or in a cage. If animals were free then they will be healthy and will not be sad or angry. How would you feel if you were in a cage?

When you go to the zoo some people mock and tease animals because of their appearance or their action, but some of those animals get angry or upset and sometimes they get hostile. But some people usually throw objects at the animals and may harm them and injure them. How would you feel if you were treated disrespectfully, was mocked at and had objects thrown at you?

Although the animals are being feed they are being feed processed food. Processed food is full of chemicals these chemicals make the animals sick the animals can die from being sick.

Some animals are born in captivity like lions. Lions are natural predators they are born to hunt. The lions in the zoo are just given food the lose their ability to hunt. Birds. Birds are born to be free and fly birds in the zoo are put in a cage their space is limited birds in the wild fly all over the place. Some birds in the zoo are chased and mocked because of the way they look. Most elephant enclosures at zoos are filthy. Elephants are forced to eat and sleep in there own filth they don,t get feed their proper food only bananas and apples elephants natural diets are made up of grasses, small plants, bushes, fruit, twigs, tree bark, and roots.

These are just some of the animals that have to suffer in the zoo. In my opinion i believe that animals should not be held in captivity.

An Explanation Exemplar Why the sea is salty

An Explanation Exemplar
Why the sea is salty

Seventy percent of the world’s surface is colored with water. Most of the world's water is salty how did it become salty?

The salt in the oceans has come from the soil and rocks on the land. Rain falling on the land flows through the the soil and soaks through the rocks. As it does dissolves traces of chemicals called minerals is common salt.

Much of the water, now containing traces of salt eventual makes its way back to the oceans either along rivers or rocks.

Water is being constantly evaporated from the oceans, forming clouds that result in rain. However, when water is evaporated the salt is left behind.

In this way, over millions of years, salt has built up in the ocean, making the sea water gradually more salty.

Why do houses have windows

Why do houses have windows

There are many reasons why houses have windows. I will provide you with many reasons as to why houses have windows.
Windows are a big part of your house’s appearance. Imagine looking at a house with no windows it would really plain and dull.

Houses are full of carbon-dioxide from cooking, dryers, microwaves and so on. Windows help foul air out your house and gets rid of carbon-dioxide. If air didn’t enter our houses we would either get ill or suffocate. Would you want to be sick because of a lack of oxygen? I certainly wouldn’t.

Windows allow us to see out of our houses that’s because they are transparent. They let us see things that are occurring outside things such as construction, farming, flooding etc.

Some houses are colder than others. When winter comes it will very cold and light provides warmth windows let light shine all throughout your house.

Windows let in a form of light called natural light. A house without natural light would be really dull and gloomy. When a house is gloomy, it makes people feel depressed.

I trust that I have convinced you why there is a need for windows in our houses.

How do seeds germinate

How do seeds germinate

How do seeds germinate? When seeds germinate they begin to grow and put out shoots after a period of dormancy.

But for this to happen it needs three things. Oxygen, water and the correct temperature. When you place the seed in the ground, it instantly begins to absorb oxygen and water from the soil. There is a substance on leaves called chlorophyll. What this does is it draws in sunlight for the plant to grow.

Seeds also have food inside them. Oxygen, sunlight, water and food helps seeds germinate. The seed then germinates and roots are formed below the ground. The roots absorb the water and food in the soil.

I bet you thought all a plant needed to grow was water and soil but plants a far more complex than that so if you want to grow a plant I would suggest growing it outside.
