How does a bee develope

Bees are social insects. They live in organised groups called colonies. Bee colonies live in a hive. Hives have male or drones, worker bees and a queen. Queen bees lay three thousand eggs a day and they never leave the nest.

Four days after the eggs are laid they hatch into larvae. The larvae are fed with bee bread. Bee bread is a mixture of nectar and pollen.

Nine days after the eggs have been hatched, the larvae are then put into a cell in the honeycomb and are covered with wax. The larvae do not eat during this time as they are beginning their transformation in the pupa stage.

After twenty one days, the pupa then opens up and a worker bee emerges ready for action to collect pollen for the hive.

The life cycle of the bee is called metamorphosis.
